DHS officials pushing plan to bus migrants to US cities, want Biden to ‘take a page from the book of Republican governors’: Report

News & Politics

Homeland Security officials are reportedly urging the White House to proceed with a bold plan to address the border crisis and the flood of migrants coming to America: bus them to various U.S. cities.

Wait, what?

Yes, that’s right. Democrats are literally accusing Republican governors of human trafficking and kidnapping for sending migrants to sanctuary cities.

But, according to NBC News, it’s the exact same plan the Biden administration is considering as thousands of migrants pore over the border each day. In fact, NBC reported that DHS officials “have openly expressed frustration” at meetings with White House officials over their reluctance to take a page from the book of Republican governors.”

White House officials have previously set 9,000 per day as an internal trigger to begin what they refer to as “interior processing,” where migrants are flown or bused from the border to interior cities where shelters can take care of them as they await reunification with family members and eventually their dates in immigration court.

But in recent meetings between Homeland Security officials and the White House, some DHS officials have advocated that the administration should start securing planes and planning for interior processing now, according to documents obtained by NBC News.

The news comes as roughly 8,000 migrants are crossing the U.S. southern border every day.

If the administration were to move forward with the plan, officials would transport migrants to cities like Los Angeles — which is currently facing its own crisis with a substantial homeless population — and even the northern U.S. border with Canada.

TheBlaze reached out to the Department of Homeland Security seeking clarifications about the plan, but the department did not respond.

It is not immediately clear what the difference is between this plan and what Republican governors have been doing for months. NBC News framed the plan as being “less chaotic,” a highly subjective standard.

Anything else?

The plan as described by NBC News appears to be the same plan the news outlet first disclosed in June.

At the time, DHS officials referred to the plan as the “Abbott plan,” according to NBC, a reference to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s campaign to bus migrants to sanctuary cities.
