Nets Ignore Biden’s Latest Lies: House Fire, Son Died in Iraq

News & Politics

Joe Biden uncorked two more brazen lies this week and the network newscasts ignored both of them. On Wednesday, the President insisted his son “lost his life” in Iraq. (Beau Biden served in Iraq, but died of brain cancer in Maryland.) On Tuesday, Biden repeated the claim that his house previously burned down in a massive blaze and that fire fighters were almost killed. (This is untrue, according to reports.)

Yet, ABC, CBS and NBC haven’t bothered to cover either. On Wednesday, Biden spoke in Colorado as he designated Camp Hale a national monument. Speaking of the role Camp Hale had in training during World War II, Biden stated:

American soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division scaled that 1800-foot cliff, at night, caught the Germans by surprise, captured key positions, and broke through the Germans’ defensive line at a pivotal point in the war. American soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division scaled that 1800-foot cliff, at night, caught the Germans by surprise, captured key positions, and broke through the Germans’ defensive line at a pivotal point in the war.

Just imagine — I mean it sincerely — I say this as a father of a man who won the Bronze Star, the conspicuous service medal, and lost his life in Iraq.

The Washington Examiner clarified, “Beau died in 2015 following a battle with aggressive brain cancer believed to have been caused by exposure to toxic burn pits while serving overseas.”

(NBC’s Today on Thursday covered the Biden event in Colorado that prompted the untruth. Tom Llamas quickly noted, “President Biden is in Los Angeles this morning as part of a four day trip out west. Yesterday in Colorado, the President made his first national monument designation by signing a proclamation creating the Camp Hale Continental Divide National Monument.” But nothing on the fire claims.)

Network morning and evening coverage? Zero.

On Tuesday, Biden told this falsehood:

I was doing Meet the Press, and lightning struck a little pond behind my house. It came up through the ground into an air conditioning system. From the basement to the third floor, the attic, everything was ruined. We almost lost a couple firefighters, they tell me, because the kitchen floor was burning between beams, and then the house, in addition, almost collapsed into the basement.

The Washington Examiner (in a separate article) noted that the Associated Press told a far calmer version:

“Luckily, we got it pretty early,’” Cranston Heights Fire Company Chief George Lamborn told the outlet. “The fire was under control in 20 minutes.”

No one was injured,” added the Associated Press. Network morning and evening coverage? Zero.

The networks also ignored this latest untruth DESPITE the fact that Biden was chided by the liberal New York Times, of all outlets, for the fire lie. As NewsBusters executive editor Tim Graham explained in a column on Wednesday

Times reporters Michael Shear and Linda Qiu began with Biden telling survivors of Hurricane Ian that he and Jill lost most of a house to a lightning strike. That’s not true. News reports at the time described it as “a small fire that was contained to the kitchen” They said this wasn’t an isolated embellishment. They noted Biden once told this story as “having had a house burn down with my wife in it.”

Almost daily, Joe Biden tells lies or vast exaggerations. But network journalists don’t seem to care. Part of this is an obvious effort to prop up the President, but it’s also an attempt to save Democrats in the midterms.
