Ruhle Excuses Fetterman’s Debate Performance, Points to Walker Instead

News & Politics

Hours after Pennsylvania Democrat Senate candidate’s disastrous debate performance Tuesday night, where he was unable to complete a coherent sentence, MSNBC’s The 11th Hour host Stephanie Ruhle sought to excuse Fetterman is clearly incapacitated by his recent stroke, and played whataboutism by directing attention toward Georgia Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker.

“Given how he performed recovering from his stroke, Michael, some Republicans are out there tonight saying that Fetterman is unfit, he should withdraw,” Ruhle said as if Republicans are the ones who are wrong in this situation.

In an attempt to play whataboutism, Ruhle wailed: “but do they not have a race in the state of Georgia, someone running for the very same position in Herschel Walker who’s facing family scandals, lies about his past jobs, and in his last debate, pulled out a prop badge and somehow believes he has some sort of adjunct role with the local police force?”

Turning to former Philadelphia Democrat Mayor Michael Nutter, she let him smear Fetterman’s Republican opponent Dr. Mehmet Oz, and gush over Fetterman.

“John Fetterman tried his best under difficult circumstances. Mr. Oz, as a doctor, I think literally violated the hippocratic oath,” Nutter cried.

Turning his ire toward Oz, Nutter melted down: “Mr. Oz should be ashamed of himself for the things that he said, the position that he is taken,” Nutter kvetched. “He has no legitimacy in this race. He parachuted into Pennsylvania. He’s trying to steal a seat. And I mean it is really despicable what he’s doing.”

Jumping back in, Ruhle made a fool of herself once more: “not only did he parachute in, he left God’s country, New Jersey, who would do that?”

STEPHANIE RUHLE: Well, given how he performed recovering from his stroke, Michael, some Republicans are out there tonight saying that Fetterman is unfit, he should withdraw. But do they not have a race in the state of Georgia, someone running for the very same position in Herschel Walker who’s facing family scandals, lies about his past jobs, and in his last debate, pulled out a prop badge and somehow believes he has some sort of adjunct role with the local police force?

MICHAEL NUTTER: Clearly Mr. Walker is delusional. But that’s just a sideshow. When we talk about Pennsylvania — John Fetterman tried his best under difficult circumstances. Mr. Oz, as a doctor, I think literally violated the hippocratic oath. He would never have advised any patient of his, I think, I hope, would have never advised any patient of his — in the aftermath of a stroke to even be on a debate stage. John Fetterman was valiant in his effort. He tried his best to answer the questions that were asked. Mr. Oz did not. And I want to give that credit to John Fetterman for trying to do his best under a certain set of circumstances that were not favorable for him, but he gave a valiant effort. I admire what John Fetterman tried to do tonight.

And Mr. Oz should be ashamed of himself for the things that he said, the position that he is taken. He has no legitimacy in this race. He parachuted into Pennsylvania. He’s trying to steal a seat. And I mean it is really despicable what he’s doing.

RUHLE: Well, not only did he parachute in, he left God’s country, New Jersey, who would do that?
