Deranged: The View Forces Little Kids to Dress in Mar-a-Lago Raid Costumes

News & Politics

Politics in excess – like many other things – rots your brain, which was evident on Monday’s Halloween edition of The View. While the cast didn’t dress up as the witches they are, they did think it was hilarious and appropriate to force kids to dress up as their favorite political obsessions and parade them around in a demented fashion show. Of course, the costumes involved mocking Trump, bashing Republicans, and taking swipes at average Americans.

Co-host Sara Haines was eager to get into the segment to show off “these Hot Topics costumes for kids,” featuring The View’s wardrobe supervisor Ashley Alderfer-Kaufman. And up first was arguably the most deranged costume to force a kid into: the Mar-a-Lago raid.

“One of the hugest topics that you talked about this year: the raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate,” Alderfer-Kaufman touted as the three kids were marched across the stage. “He has all these classified documents, top secret documents. What did he do? He flushed them down the toilet. So, we have Trump as a toilet with our FBI agents.”

The kid playing the toilet/Trump was apparently instructed to make a scowling/pouting face. “Oh, I love that!” Haines squeals.

After a kid dressed as a Choco-Taco was presented, their next political swipe was at Pennsylvania Republican candidate for Senate, Dr. Mehmet Oz and his video showing how high prices had gone up on produce. Of course, they played an edited clip of the video.

“All right. I’m not sure what Wegner’s is but here we have our Dr. Oz and his crudité,” Alderfer-Kaufman announced, going on to scoff at high prices. “We got the broccoli and the salsa and guacamole and asparagus. I actually think those prices are pretty good. He even has his supermarket bag. So we made it real.”

A short time later, they took another swipe at average Americans who don’t have the uber-wealth of The View cast by mocking inflation. “Now, unfortunately, the economy is definitely on everybody’s mind,” Alderfer-Kaufman lamented.

They essentially taped a bunch of $100 bills to an inflatable costume and called it “inflation.” “These inflatable costumes are really popular. Costs are just going up and up and up. Wouldn’t we all love some money? So we threw a bunch of money on this costume and we have inflation,” she said, lauding their lazy design.

Their final costume wasn’t really political as it was just generally gross. They sexualized a young boy by throwing them in a gold, skin-tight suit with a red slap mark on his face signifying the Oscars slap.

“Now, we don’t want to endorse violence of any kind but we couldn’t help [ourselves]” was her argument. “So, we have our interpretation We have an Oscar statue, we call this the Oscar slap. He has a red handprint on the statue.”

Although it’s unclear who said it, someone who was mic’d up and on stage said the costume was “beautiful.”

Of course, all these costumes got wild cheers and applause from the radically liberal audience.

The View’s deranged ideas for kid’s costumes was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from Carvana and Procter & Gamble. Their contact information is linked.

[Cuts to video]

DR. MEHMET OZ (R-PA): Thought I’d do some grocery shopping. I’m at at Wegner’s and my wife wants some vegetables for crudite. So, he’s some broccoli. That’s 2 bucks. Not a ton of broccoli. There’s some asparagus. That’s $4. Carrots, that’s four more dollar. That’s $10 of vegetables there.

[Cuts back to live]

[Applause]

ALDERFER-KAUFMAN: All right. I’m not sure what Wegner’s is but here we have our Dr. Oz and his crudite. We got the broccoli and the salsa and guacamole and asparagus. I actually think those prices are pretty good. He even has his supermarket bag. So we made it real.

Here we have our take, we have car dealership inflatable green dancer guy. These inflatable costumes are really popular. Costs are just going up and up and up. Wouldn’t we all love some money? So we threw a bunch of money on this costume and we have inflation.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: That’s pretty [inaudible].

HOSTIN: That’s so good.

ALDERFER-KAUFMAN: All right, so, this year the Oscars made huge headlines but it really wasn’t about who won, it was about what happened with best actor Will Smith when he went up and slapped Chris Rock. Now, we don’t want to endorse violence of any kind but we couldn’t help but talk about one of the hottest “Hot topics” this year. So, we have our interpretation We have an Oscar statue, we call this the Oscar slap. He has a red handprint on the statue.

[Laughter]

UNIDENTIFIED: Beautiful.

HAINES: This is always my favorite. You do such a great job with this.
