A Fort Lauderdale man has been arrested on a sexual battery charge after allegedly raping a woman who was injured in a car crash instead of taking her to a hospital.
According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, Brenden Lee Jones, 40, also listed in records as Brendon or Brendan Lee Jones, is accused of sexually assaulting a woman on September 15, 2023. The two were acquaintances and had just been in a car accident when the incident occurred.
The woman, who was living at a Lauderhill homeless shelter at the time, later contacted police to report that she had been raped “somewhere behind the KFC” located at 3100 W. Broward Blvd. Officers were unable to find evidence of the assault at that location. However, records show Jones lives just three blocks south of the area, in Fort Lauderdale’s Melrose Park neighborhood.
According to police, the woman said Jones—whom she knew as the drug dealer “Twin”—had picked her up from a food store near Dillard High School. While driving, they were rear-ended. Jones reportedly fled the crash scene, and a friend picked them up. The woman was in severe pain and unable to move, so the men carried her from the vehicle.
She told officers she pleaded to be taken to the hospital, but instead, they drove to Jones’ home. She said she asked to be brought home if not to the hospital, but they refused. At the house, she fell asleep in Jones’ bed and later awoke to him raping her. Despite her protests, Jones allegedly said things like, “I can do what I want” and “Open your f—ing legs, you made me crash my car.”
The victim told detectives she felt “helpless” during the attack, breaking down in tears during her statement.
DNA from a rape kit processed in 2024 linked Jones to the assault, leading to his arrest on Thursday.
Records from the Florida Department of Corrections show Jones has previously served prison time for robbery, cocaine sales, and escape.
As of Friday, he remains in custody at Broward Main Jail with bail set at $150,000.
