Great news for New York State families in 2025—more money is coming your way thanks to a new bill signed by Governor Kathy Hochul.
New York is investing over $2 billion to support families this year. One of the most significant benefits? The younger your child is, the more you’ll receive.
Child Tax Credit Hits Record High: Up to $1,000 for Children Under 4
According to the official New York State website, a major update to the Child Tax Credit will take effect in 2025.
Eligible families will receive:
-
$1,000 tax credit for each child under the age of 4
-
$500 tax credit for each child aged 4 to 16
These are the highest tax credit amounts in the state’s history.
When Will You Receive the Money?
You won’t receive the $1,000 upfront. Instead, this amount will be applied as a tax credit when you file your 2025 taxes in 2026.
Only children under the age of 4 qualify for the full $1,000 credit. If your child is older than 4, you’ll get $500 per child.
This initiative, introduced by Governor Hochul, aims to reduce childhood poverty across the state.
Income Requirements Apply
There are income-based eligibility requirements that determine whether you qualify for the full amount. You can find the full criteria here.
