New York – A New York man has been sentenced in a deeply disturbing case involving the murder of his pregnant wife and the attempted killing of their two young daughters, a crime reportedly driven by anger over the gender of the unborn child.
Drew G., 33, was sentenced to 30 years in prison followed by 15 years of probation after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and two counts of assault. The victims were his 29-year-old wife, Samantha G., who was five months pregnant with their third daughter, and their daughters, ages 6 and 9.
The attack occurred on September 4, 2024, just two days after Labor Day, inside the family’s home. Authorities responded to a reported domestic dispute and found Samantha critically injured. Drew surrendered at the scene with superficial wounds and was taken into custody. Samantha was airlifted to a hospital but died shortly after arrival. The two young girls were also stabbed but survived and are now in the care of relatives.
During sentencing, Samantha’s father gave a powerful victim impact statement, revealing what he believed was the motive behind the attack: “He had wanted a boy.” Although police did not officially confirm a motive, his words gave insight into the emotional backdrop of the crime.
Samantha’s father also spoke of the trauma endured by the girls, who not only lost their mother but experienced the terror and pain of the attack firsthand. He said their emotional recovery will take years.
Despite the horrific nature of the crime, Drew requested permission to contact his daughters while incarcerated. District Attorney S. Smith opposed the request, asking the court to issue no-contact orders for the maximum duration allowed.
Judge J. Hubbard approved the request, issuing stay-away orders through 2056. He noted that the girls could choose to contact their father once they reach adulthood. Drew refused to sign the orders. “You took a life and injured your children,” Judge Hubbard told him. “They had a right to expect protection from you.”
Before the tragedy, Samantha’s social media showcased a seemingly happy family, with smiling pictures of her, Drew, and their daughters. Now, those memories stand in painful contrast to the violence that shattered their home.
In addition to the murder and assault charges, Drew also faced felony firearm charges, including possession of an AK-47, although these did not influence the final sentence.
As Drew begins his lengthy prison term, the two young survivors start a long journey toward healing, supported by extended family. What started as a quiet family dispute ended in unimaginable violence, leaving behind lasting scars and a legacy of grief.
